Roofline explained

A roofline is the line where the roof meets the outer walls of a house. The roofline consists of several different elements, including the eaves, gables, ridges, and hip rafters.

The eaves are the edges of the roof that project out beyond the walls of the house. These contain the fascia boards which are attached to the ends of the rafters. There are also the soffits here that join the underside of the roof beams to the walls of the house and create a waterproof protective layer.

Gables are triangular sections that extend from the eaves to the ridge, and they are often decorated with architectural features such as gingerbread trim.

Ridges are the highest point of the roof, and hip rafters connect the ridges to the corners of the house.

The guttering is sometimes classed as part of the roofline as it is found on the eaves and collects rainwater that runs off the roof. This also includes any downpipes that bring the water from the guttering on the roof, down to the drainage areas around the house that carry it away to the main drainage pipes.

Each of these elements plays an important role in protecting a house from weather damage and creating an attractive appearance. If you think your home's roofline elements need some work, contact us today for a free quote.
